The Ngurai-Illum Wurrung traditional lands span a wide stretch of north central Victoria, covering the middle Goulburn and the Campaspe River.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their traditional country includes the lands and waterways surrounding Murchison, Nagambie, Tabilk, Avenel, Rushworth, parts of the Strathbogie Ranges, the Mt Camel Range, Reedy Lake and adjoining areas. These lands and waters contain sites of deep cultural, historical and spiritual significance.

This website has been established to provide information about the proposed Ngurai-Illum Wurrung Native Title Determination Application and to assist descendants, families and community members remain informed throughout the preparation of the claim.

The proposed application is being developed from historical, anthropological, genealogical and community evidence. It draws upon independent expert material, historical records and, most importantly, the knowledge and continuing cultural identity of Ngurai-Illum Wurrung descendants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The proposed claim group is presently based upon descendants of the recognised Ngurai-Illum Wurrung ancestors:

King Charles Tattambo;
Nelson (Tro-Bullock); and
Tooterrie<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Through family, kinship, responsibility to country, cultural practice and the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next, Ngurai Illum Wurrung families have continued to maintain connection with their ancestors and traditional country despite the disruption caused by colonisation, dispossession and removal.

This website will provide updates about the proposed application, meetings, notices and important events. It will also assist descendants to register their contact details and contribute family history, photographs, records, oral histories and cultural knowledge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

King Tattambo<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tattambo was a respected Ngurungaeta of the Ngurai-Illum Wurrung people, born around the late 1700\u2019s within the Gunnung Willam clan<\/em><\/strong>. He lived through the early impacts of European colonisation and the displacement of many Aboriginal clans from their traditional lands.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

John Terrick<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-Son of Tro-Bullock<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was born in country in 1843. John Terrick is an important Ngurai-Illum ancestor associated with the middle Goulburn region. His story represents enduring family connections, cultural continuity, and the ongoing relationship between Ngurai-ilam people and Country.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Tooterie<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tooterie was an important Ngurai-Illum Wurrung woman connected to the Murchison area. Her descendants maintained enduring ties to Country, family, and culture, reflecting the continuity of Ngurai-Illum Wurrung identity.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
